Overview: Champagne and Wax Crayons presentation is based on his book "Champagne and Wax Crayons: Riding the Madness of the Creative Industries"
The book is a first person, brutally honest account of starting and surviving as a creative professional, from childhood hobby of drawing, to a career working in film, television, print/digital media as an illustrator and art-director for the likes of The Premier League, WWE, Channel 4, The Guardian and UNICEF.
The stories in both the book and the talk are applicable to anyone wishing to enter the creative industries or people who've been in it for some time, dealing with common issues such as self-promotion, finding your path in the industry without tutorial input, freelance pressure, drawing on your character and experiences to shape your creative style and adapting to change.
Here's a little review of the book from Channel 4 director, Mark Rader:
"A funny and informative guidebook for anyone who’s thinking of trying to break into the creative industries, and a highly evocative reminder for anyone who’s forgotten what it felt like to go though."
