COURSE OVERVIEW


Our HNC in Creative Media Production (Game Development) is designed to provide specialist work-related foundations in a range of gaming sectors including game design and development. The course is delivered via a combination of practical workshops, lectures, one-to-one tutorials and field trips to galleries, museums and gaming events related to the level of study and the industry. Upon successful completion of this course, you can continue your studies in the same vocational area.

The HND in Creative Media Production (Game Development) will enable you to evolve your creative ability and technical skills, allowing you to determine a career path within the computer game industry. Students will gain work-related qualifications and be able to benefit from career development opportunities within the industry. Completion of the course will allow you to progress on to employment or to continue studying in the same vocational area.

Non-Academic Entry Requirements:

All applicants need to attend an interview and bring a portfolio of work that demonstrates a range of creative thinking and technical skills applied to your chosen subject or other design related projects. You will also undertake a literacy and numeracy diagnostic test. WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

 Higher National Certificate:  

The course is aimed at students wanting to develop a career in the various strands of the computer game development industry. Some adult learners may wish to make the commitment required by this qualification in order to progress into higher education. Our students also gain skills that enable them to develop a creative mind. This allows them to experiment and produce an inventive portfolio.

Higher National Diploma:

The course is aimed at students wanting to develop a career in one of the various strands of the computer game development industry such as level design, illustration, game studies, environments for computer games and cross platform game development.

 Higher National Certificate:  

Studying the Computer Game Design and Development course will ensure learners develop an understanding of how interactive entertainment on mobile devices, computers and consoles will be giving

way to video game developers. This will help them gain access to the tools they need to build their own world of adventures and action within an educational environment.

Higher National Diploma:

With the passage of time, technologies are being created with greater influence in society. This translates into new sources of employment and investment. Studying computer game development can lead to many profitable opportunities.

Game Animation Students

WHAT WILL I EXPERIENCE?

Higher National Certificate: 

This course enables further development and exploration of your studies to HND level. You will build on your prior learning to explore advanced game development along with live competition work which is a major part of the programme. The course culminates in a negotiated final major project and exhibition.

The aim of this course is to enable you to develop conceptual, cultural,creative and practical skills and to encourage flexibility, knowledge, skills and motivation as a basis for future studies and career development.

The course will stretch you in terms of your cultural understanding and how contemporary and historical design have previously been interpreted. Although this course will provide you wi h vocational training that will ready you for industry life, it will also act as a tool to open your mind, make new associations in your environment and will make you begin to question the depth and originality of your responses.

Higher National Diploma:

The aim of this programme is to equip our students with the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve high performance on the creative media production environment.

PROGRESSION

Higher National Certificate: 

The Level 4 BTEC Higher National Certificate provides a solid grounding in the Creative Media Production environment. This qualification gives you the opportunity to progress directly into a higher level of education in the creative media production industry.

Higher National Diploma:

This qualification gives you the opportunity to progress directly into employment in the computer game industry. Upon completion, you will be equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to produce computer game content for several industries, such as: producing, directing, editing and coding. It is also ideal if you are looking to progress into higher education in the form of professional qualifications or a degree.

Higher National Certificates (1 Year)

  • Minimum age: 18
  • Four or five GCSEs (grades A*-C, (4) or above) or Level 2 qualification equivalent
  • Typically two A-levels (D or above), BTEC National Diploma or any NARIC recognised equivalence - every application is considered on an individual basis
  • English proficiency: IELTS 5.5 (with minimum 5.0 for each component) or equivalent (CEFR Level B2)
  • Mature applicants: (over 21) are considered subject to satisfactory literacy and numeracy, work experience (if applicable). All applicants will be required to attend an interview and complete a creativity task
